Vehicle Overview

The WZ-111 model 5A (or WZ-111-5A in short) is a fairly new vehicle in World of Tanks. After its introduction in Update 9.19.1, it's now one of the two Chinese top tier heavy tanks, next to the 113. However, while the 113 is more like a heavy-medium hybrid and plays slightly differently, we can say that the WZ-111-5A is the true successor of all the preceding heavy tanks.

It carries over pretty much all characteristics of the WZ-111 model 1-4 on Tier IX, and keeps the same play style. Of course, many parameters have been improved, so it feels like an actual upgrade compared to Tier IX. Thanks to the powerful engine, you are able to reach crucial positions in time, and with a bit of luck prevent the enemy from getting to theirs.

The armour has been upgraded as well, especially the turret, which is now 300mm thick, making it pretty much immune to incoming fire. The frontal hull can withstand some punishment, too, but of course you can't expect to bounce as much as a Maus. Note that even though the side armour states 120mm, it's only the case for the part above the tracks. The lower part only has 80mm; this tank is not the best choice for side-scraping tactics.

It still has the 130mm gun with good damage per shot, but mediocre aim time and accuracy. With that in mind, it makes most sense to engage in close combat with this tank. The decent rate of fire will help you take out your opponents with ease. Just make sure to use your damage per minute against tanks with higher damage per shot – or your superior damage per shot against opponents with higher damage per minute.

In order to maximise your performance on the battlefield, we suggest installing the following equipment:

If you don't mind the aim time, replace the Enhanced Gun Laying Drive with an Improved Ventilation to boost all of your tank's parameters.

In addition, your crew members should learn the following skills and perks:

Commander
Gunner
Driver
Loader

As always, please consider the setup for both the equipment and crew skills as suggestions. Feel free to experiment on your own and choose what you think works best for you.
