New Personal Reserves: Simple, Efficient, and Easy to Use

Greetings, Commanders!

Update 1.18.1 will bring a fresh batch of upgrades to World of Tanks. One of these upgrades will be the introduction of reworked Personal Reserves, which are easier to use, simpler, and more efficient than ever before. However, since this change will affect a number of valuable in-game items, we want to share all of the details with you in advance.

Personal Reserves are great assets, but, at the moment, they also have some drawbacks:

  • They are hard to locate and navigate through
  • There are too many types of them, way too many unusual durations (like 4 or 6 hours), and miniscule bonus values (like +10% or +15%)

For these reasons, Personal Reserves too often gather dust in players’ Depots. Instead, we want you to get the most value possible from Personal Reserves with minimum extra effort.

Let’s see what will improve!

Easy to Use

Personal Reserves will have a new access point in your Garage that will indicate which Reserves are currently activated and how much time you have left for each.

The old way of activating Personal Reserves was a bit complicated. You’ll now be able to do it in just a couple of clicks.

The new Personal Reserves activation and management screen will be accessible via the top bar in the Garage. On the screen, you will also see the following:

  • All Reserve types available in the game: Personal Reserves (for Combat XP, credits, Crew and Free XP), Event Reserves, and Clan Reserves
  • The number of Reserves on your account
  • The time remaining for each activated Reserve

You will also be able to purchase Personal Reserves directly from this screen, saving you valuable playtime.

If due to some reason you’re given an old version of a Personal Reserve after the release of Update 1.18.1, it won’t show in the new Personal Reserve activation window. But don’t worry, you’ll still be able to activate it from the Depot. To do that, click on Depot in your Garage and then choose Personal Reserves from a menu on the left. A window will open, containing all your personal Reserves. Hover the cursor over the reserve you need and press Activate.

Please take note that Personal Reserves that come as Referral Program rewards will be new ones, though in some materials in the client and on the game portal old Personal Reserves may be listed as such

Moreover, you will even be able to activate Personal Reserves when in battle. Just press Tab (or hit the B key) and select a Reserve.

Some might say, “What’s so special about activating Personal Reserves mid-fight? Under the current rules, if the bonus expires while I’m in battle, it will still be applied to the results.” Well, just imagine you roll out with no Personal Reserves activated—just as a warmup—and then the battle goes exceptionally well for you. With the current system, you wouldn’t be able to capitalize on your performance. However, this will change with Update 1.18.1, and you’ll be able to activate Personal Reserves before the fight is over! The bonus will apply to the results of the entire battle, not just what you earned after activation.

On top of that, once the effect of an activated Personal Reserve ends, you’ll get a notification showing the amount of extra credits / Combat XP / Crew and Free XP gained. The notification will also feature a button leading to the Personal Reserves activation screen.

Simple and Efficient

To complement the reworked UI, we reviewed and improved the basic mechanics of Personal Reserves by streamlining them and increasing their efficiency.

  • All Personal Reserves will have the same duration: 1 hour. Your questionnaire answers revealed that most players preferred 1‑hour Personal Reserves, so we hope this change will be well received.
  • There will only be three categories of Personal Reserves: for extra credits, for extra Combat XP, and the combined one for Crew and Free XP. The reasoning is simple: There are only three Personal Reserve slots, and you shouldn’t have to choose which type to leave out when you’re filling in all the slots.
  • There will only be two types of Personal Reserve bonus values: Standard and Improved. Once again, this is for simplicity and transparency. We believe that playing World of Tanks should be about having fun on the battlefield, not about estimating comparative values of various Reserves in the Depot.
In the table below, you can see the entire range of new Personal Reserves:
Personal Reserve Type For Combat XP For Crew + Free XP For Credits
Standard +50% +200% +50%
Improved +100% +300% +100%
  • Standard Reserves will be awarded for taking part in in-game events and activities. Improved Reserves will come from in-game purchases or as part of Premium Shop packages.

  • With Update 1.18.1, it will be technically possible for Standard Personal Reserves to have an expiration date (after which they disappear from the player’s account). Please note that we will not be using this functionality in the foreseeable future. Here’s what it means for players:
    • Improved Personal Reserves will not have expiration date.
    • Converted Personal Reserves will not have expiration date. This applies to both Standard and Improved Personal Reserves.
    • Battle Pass, Well-Deserved Reward, Holiday Ops, or any other current and upcoming activities will NOT distribute Personal Reserves with an expiration date anytime soon.

The Principles of Personal Reserve Conversion

As the new Personal Reserves all have a duration of 1 hour, and given that there will only be two bonus values per type (Standard and Improved), we will have to convert all existing Personal Reserves. With this conversion, the combined value of new Personal Reserves on your account will be greater than or equal to the combined value of old Personal Reserves on your account.

The value of an old Personal Reserve can be defined as its bonus (in %) multiplied by its duration in hours. The value of a new Personal Reserve is simply its bonus (in %) since the new Personal Reserves all have a duration of 1 hour.

Therefore, during this conversion, the value of your Personal Reserves will stay the same or grow. The quantity of new Personal Reserves will always be rounded up, and you will not lose any value during the conversion.

  • Personal Reserves with a numeric value that exists in the new system but a long duration (e.g., 2 hours) will be converted into the respective number of 1-hour Reserves.
EXAMPLE:
You have seven 2-hour Personal Reserves for +50% to Combat XP. After the conversion, you will get fourteen 1-hour Standard Personal Reserves for +50% to Combat XP.
  • Personal Reserves with numeric values that do not exist in the new system (e.g., +15% to credits) will have their bonuses “compressed” so that the total value for the player remains the same or increases.
EXAMPLE:
You have two 4-hour Personal Reserves for +15% to credits. After the conversion, you will get three 1-hour Personal Reserves for +50% to credits. Why? One 4-hour Personal Reserve with a bonus of 15% has a value of 60% (15% × 4). As the closest new Personal Reserve bonus value is 50%, you should get 2.4 of the new Reserves (1.2 × 2). This rounds up in your favor to three. With the new Reserve, in 1 hour, you will earn approximately the same number of extra credits that you would earn in 4 hours with the old Reserve.
  • Personal Reserves for Crew XP and Free XP on your account will be converted into the new combined Personal Reserves for Crew and Free XP as follows. First, the converter will assess the quantity, bonuses, and duration of the Reserves (separately for Reserves with Standard and Improved bonuses). Then, the converter will calculate the number of new combined Personal Reserves that would appear after the conversion of Personal Reserves for Crew XP and Personal Reserves for Free XP. After that, the converter will choose the greater value and add the resulting number of new combined Personal Reserves on your account.
EXAMPLE:
You have eight 2-hour Personal Reserves for +300% to Crew XP and eleven 2-hour Personal Reserves for +300% to Free XP. After the conversion, you will get twenty-two 1-hour combined Personal Reserves for +300% to Crew and Free XP. Why? One 2-hour Personal Reserve with a bonus of 300% has a value of 600% (300% × 2). The total value of eight 2-hour Personal Reserves is 4,800%, and in case with eleven 2-hour Personal Reserves is 6,600%, which is the greater of the two. By dividing 6,600% by 300%, we get 22.

We know these rules may seem confusing so we've prepared a useful Personal Reserve conversion tool. With it, you can check what happens to your old Personal Reserves in Update 1.18.1.
