How to Play the Vipera

Are you ready to take control of the Vipera, the brand-new Tier VIII Italian tank destroyer with an appetite for causing damage? Here's everything you need to know about this hotshot before you take on the battlefield's heavy armor!

Firepower

Like the Tier VII–X vehicles of the new Italian tank destroyer line, the Vipera sports an autoloader. It spits out five shells in 24 seconds, each causing a decent 400 HP of damage per shot with 220 mm of penetration. The six-second delay between shots is unconventional and forces careful targeting—which isn't aided by an aiming time of 3 second and mediocre accuracy—but it allows you to cause a quick 2,000 HP of damage. The 36-second reload speed might seem long, but it's comparable to that of French tank destroyers with a smaller clip. With –10 degrees of gun depression and a rotating turret with a 90 degree arc, you'll have plenty of offensive flexibility.

Mobility

While the 30 km/h top speed won't propel you to the best spots first or let you reposition quickly while reloading, it isn't bad for a well armored vehicle. The hull's traverse speed is relatively slow, but the decent turret traverse speed provides some compensation. Factor in the mobility and its limitations when exposing yourself or engaging opponents to avoid getting caught out.

Survivability

If your Vipera does come under fire, you can rely on its tough frontal turret and hull armor to keep you in the game. The turret has 275/160/50 mm of armor, with 300 mm of effective armor at the front, and the hull's armor is 210/100/50 mm thick. The Italian's lower glacis plate is less reliable, and the turret's roof is only 40 mm thick, exposing it to SPGs, but its low cupola is very hard for enemies to hit. Thanks to strong turret angles, the armor is still effective while the turret is turned, and the frontal armor profile allows for more aggressive positioning.
