IS-7

Vehicle Overview

As mentioned in the introduction, the IS-7 is one of the most popular heavy tanks in tier X battles and for good reason. It is very well-rounded, with solid and reliable sloped armour, both on the hull and the turret, a powerful high alpha-damage gun and an impressive top speed for a heavy tank. As a result, it can survive quite a lot of punishment. It is also forgiving when you make mistakes and has the potential to have a decisive influence in the battle’s outcome.

The vehicle is not without flaws, however. The most prominent of those is the relatively bad mobility and turning speed. Despite the high top-speed, the IS-7 can struggle to reach it, especially on soft terrain. Furthermore, the main gun’s high alpha-damage is evened out by its relatively low rate of fire and long aiming time. This means that hitting fast, nimble targets may be quite a challenge. Lastly, the reliable armour is countered by a noticeably low health pool for a heavy tank of this tier.

Playing the IS-7 requires taking all of the above into consideration and adjusting your tactics accordingly. Good armour and alpha damage determines your role as being either a first-line attacker or first-line defender. While pushing the frontlines, concentrate primarily on slow or stationary enemy vehicles. Nimble scouts, and even many mediums, can easily outmanoeuvre you and evade your fire effectively. That is why you should avoid engaging those vehicles unless you have no other choice but to defend yourself against them, or when you have a clear, guaranteed shot - when they have been de-tracked or blocked, for example. However, never forget that your job as the first-line assault vehicle is to lead the charge and engage the enemy's main forces. Stick to your attack squad, move as a group and steadily push the line towards the enemy base.

Tank Tip: Please note that this tank’s frontal plate has a peculiar beak-like shape. On the one hand, it raises your frontal armour effectiveness tremendously when facing the enemy directly, but on the other hand it makes a good armour angling manoeuvre next to impossible. When in a stand-off situation, always try to battle your opponent face-to-face, because angling your armour will, in most cases, result in you nullifying the “beak’s” angle-effectiveness bonus.

In order to maximise your performance on the battlefield, we suggest installing the following equipment:

Improved Ventilation Class III High Caliber Tank Gun Rammer Vertical Stabiliser Mk 2

In addition, your crew members should learn the following skills and perks:
Commander
Gunner
Driver
1st Loader
2nd Loader

As always, please consider the setup for both the equipment and crew skills as suggestions. Feel free to experiment on your own and choose what you think works best for you.

Roll out, Commanders!
