Inside the Tanks: The 1REC of the French Foreign Legion - The AMX 30 & EBR

ABOUT THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION & 1REC | FUNDRAISING

Commanders!

The world-renowned French Foreign Legion has enjoyed service in North Africa, the Balkans, and South East Asia with some of France's finest armored vehicles. World of Tanks' Richard "The Challenger" Cutland recently spoke exclusively with the Commanding Officer of the 1REC (1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment), Colonel Henri Leinekugel Le Cocq, and two 1REC reservists who served on AMX 30 and Panhard EBR.

Watch the video below to learn about these two unique vehicles, take a history lesson, and hear about the interviewees' personal experiences. Also, scroll down to find out how much we raised for injured veterans of 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment during our fundraising campaign in April 2021, and how new players can still help by activating a special invite code!

About the French Foreign Legion & 1REC

The French Foreign Legion is an infantry, cavalry, engineer, and airborne corps within the French army that is made up of highly-trained foreign soldiers.

The 1REC is the cavalry (tank) wing of the famous Foreign Legion, and it is the Legion's only regiment specializing in armored combat. Since its formation in 1921, it has never been dissolved or renamed, making it the longest-existing French army branch in terms of continuity of service. The regiment of 900 service members has been stationed at Camp Carpiagne, a few kilometers from Marseille, since July 2014. There, they focus on the Mediterranean and significant international operations and conflicts.

The regiment has served with the French Panhard EBR, AMX 13, and Hotchkiss H39, as well as the American M4 Sherman, M24 Chaffee, M3 Stuart, M10 Wolverine, and M8A1—many of which are available to play in World of Tanks right now!

Fundraising

Back in April 2021, World of Tanks began a joint campaign with the 1REC in honor of their 100th anniversary. The campaign, aptly named LEGION 100, aimed to raise awareness and funds for their veterans' charity.

Since then, we've worked on many great activities together, such as the Tibo inShape video and our fundraising campaign, in which we promised provide a donation for every new player who creates an account in World of Tanks. We're pleased to announce that we've raised a fantastic €10,000 for the Legion's charity (the Association of the Friends and Veterans of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment - *Association des amis et anciens du Royal Étranger). An enormous thank you to all of our players!

The fundraising campaign is still active! New players can still contribute to the campaign to help the 1REC's veteran charity.
