XM551 Sheridan

The XM551 Sheridan marks the end of the American light tank line. Like the T49, it has two guns you can choose from, each significantly changing the playstyle of the vehicle: the reliable 105-mm gun or the devastating 152-mm howitzer.  Check out what else this machine has to show!

Gameplay

Let's start with the biggest weakness: the Sheridan is large and its armour is very thin – not a good combination at all. The size also affects the camouflage rating negatively; check out the recommended crew skills below to improve it. Despite the all-around spaced armour, don't expect to bounce anything, not even HE shells. Your best bet is not getting hit at all.

Use the great gun depression value to hide most of your vehicle. Take shots at the enemy as your turret is a difficult target to hit. To a certain extent, it also works while moving. You need to move unpredictably for a higher chance of survival.

Don't underestimate its speed, and especially the acceleration, just because of its size. What you should not do though is ram anything with it, as the size may fool you into thinking it's heavy (it isn't really). Like the previous light tanks, it's view range is one of the highest in the entire game. Use it to your advantage if you can.

Two guns are available for the XM551 Sheridan:

  • 105-mm Lightweight Gun: This weapon is about as strong as Tier X medium tanks, at least in terms of damage per shot. The rate of fire and penetration power is slightly lower than the Patton's but still fine. If you go for this one, you'll need to play like a light-medium. Check the situation on the field and support your medium tanks with well-placed shots or spot for your snipers
  • 152-mm Gun-Launcher XM81 (conventional): On the T49, this gun was more dangerous as it also faces Tier VII vehicles. At Tier X, it still deals good damage, yet not as effectively; the enemies get stronger but the gun's only improvements are a better reload time, accuracy, and aiming time. If you liked it on the T49, give it a go on the Sheridan, yet keep the points above in mind

For every setup above, we recommend using the Tank Gun Rammer, as well as the Vertical Stabiliser, to increase your potential damage per minute and the overall reliability of your gun. Depending on your preferences, go for Improved Ventilation for a general boost in performance or Coated Optics if you want to spot enemies more easily. When it comes to the 152-mm gun, it's best to mount the Enhanced Gun Laying Drive because of the bad aiming time.
