The M4 Sherman is one if not the most famous American tank in military history. While it has been a tank mainly built for mass-production, we cannot deny its qualities on the battlefield. Together with the T-34 and the Panzer IV, it sets the standards for the higher-tier medium tanks.

Gameplay

Looking at the armour layout, everything that hits your hull will penetrate. The turret is a different story and will introduce you to the 'hull-down' gameplay American vehicles are famed for. What this means is your turret front is quite strong, thanks to the gun mantlet. On top of that, the M4A1 Sherman boasts an outstanding gun depression angle. Those two traits allow you to hide your weakest parts behind terrain, show only your strong turret, and fire at your enemies comfortably.

The M4A1 Sherman isn't quite the fastest medium tank there is. You'll still get where you need to be in time, though. Make good use of your view range, if you can. Assisting and supporting your team isn't just about dealing damage and rushing into the red team's flanks, but also about enabling your team to shoot any target, be it through spotting or destroying a target's tracks.

  • 76 mm gun M1A1: The standard choice if you like the normal support gameplay. Everything is quite average: the damage, the rate of fire, the accuracy, and the aim time.
  • 105 mm M4: A dangerous howitzer, capable of dealing tremendous damage - if you hit. And penetrate. On the other side, even if you don't penetrate, you will deal some splash damage, where normal guns would just bounce. Take a couple of HEAT shells with you to deal with same-tier opponents.

Recommended Setup

To get the most out of the guns we just presented, the pieces of equipment above will do the job best. With a faster reload time and better aim speed you can deal damage both faster and more reliably. If you prefer playing the support role, consider replacing the Enhanced Gun Laying Drive with Coated Optics.

If you are a new player, you might want to go for a Camouflage Net, Binocular Telescope, and a Toolbox. They may not be a great fit for the tank but they can be demounted for free, and ultimately, it's better than nothing.
