Commanders!
Set your sights on the new tank in town. The latest French medium begs for your attention, but does it deserve it? We think so! A fresh face for the Legend of the Hunter Challenge, the AltProto AMX 30 is a Tier VIII speedster that loves to throw its weight around.
The concept was born from a 1958 Franco-German Standardpanzer program and involved a 30-ton vehicle with high mobility and powerful armament. Originally named the Char 30 AP, the project was designed for the French 105 mm F1 and was constantly modified to eventually give way to the AMX 30. Work was discontinued, but not in World of Tanks, and it's ready for you to play today. But first, let's run through the nuts and bolts and dissect some top tips and tricks before you roll out into battle!
How to Play
Firepower
Time to dive into the most explosive part of the tank! The AltProto AMX 30 packs a potent 100 mm SA 47-58 firearm capable of penetrating an impressive 232 mm with AP shells and 263 mm with APCR. The 300 HP of damage per shot puts it toward the higher end for its tier, but the 1,800 DPM proves a little weaker in comparison.
The crème de la crème of this Frenchman, though, is the outstanding 11-degree gun depression angle. Combined with the strong gun mantlet, it's ideal for peering over ridgelines and picking apart unsuspecting foes. It compares favorably against older-style hull-down mediums, such as the T25 Pilot Number 1 and M46 Patton KR, with better mobility and greater alpha damage at its disposal. Just beware of taking on same-tier heavies without an escape plan, and know that making rushed snapshots will prove to be an unreliable tactic.
Survivability
The AltProto AMX 30 has some armor to boast about, but the terrain will likely be your best friend or savior in battles. The sturdy gun mantlet will block some shots, and the 60/40/30 mm hull armor will bounce incoming shells at some angles but should not be exposed if you want to remain in the fight for long.
The remarkable 11 degrees of gun depression will hide a cupola positioned towards the rear of the tank and give pestering foes less to aim at. Meanwhile, the concealment value and 380 m view range are decent for a medium tank but are not attributes you can rely on to make a good spotter.
Mobility
This is where the AltProto AMX 30 can really shine. The impressive top speed of 65 km/h and stirring power-to-weight ratio make it one of the speediest mediums out there. It matches the Kampfpanzer 07 RH in that department and offers mobility superior to the CS-52 LIS, Lansen C, and T42.
It can be a little sluggish on an incline while hauling around that trusty firearm. Still, this fiery French tank remains one of the closest to light mediums you can find and will be ready to take on an opponent anywhere on the battlefield at a moment's notice.

Repair is a crucial second skill if you want to remain in the game for longer. You shouldn't lead the charge or fight in the first line, but even in the second line, your tracks could be destroyed, and you don't want to be caught without them. Make sure you are always ready for a quick escape or to change to a more advantageous position. The additional skills improve your gun and general performance in battle, especially Brothers in Arms.
