gamescom 2015: Q&A with the Developers

As promised, we have collected your questions and put them to our developers at gamescom so that they could satisfy your curiosity and give you a little sneak peek into what the future holds for World of Tanks. These are the most interesting questions we received and the developers’ answers:

Q: Are you planning on introducing any new nations to the game any time soon, like Italy or Poland for example?

A: Yes. In version 9.12, we plan to introduce a new nation: Czechoslovakia, and a branch of medium tanks. Another nation is also planned for 2016 – we will announce more details in the future.

Q: Are there any plans of introducing any PvE content to the game?

A: Yes, we are currently testing various PvE mechanics and their possible applications for World of Tanks. However, it is still too early to give any more substantial information.

Q: Will you add more Premium Tanks to the nations that have very few of them, like France or Japan?

A: Japan is a very specific case, as it generally didn’t produce or design that many tanks. As a result, the vehicle pool we can draw from is extremely limited. As for the other nations, more Premium Tanks will definitely be added, but less than the numbers from 2015.

Q: Are you planning to interconnect the in-game clan chat with WoT Assistant?

A: We may introduce a limited chat feature in the WoT Assistant sometime in the future. However, this idea still requires more examination and research.

Q: Is there going to be support for multi-core processors, SLI and CROSSFIRE graphics? If so then when?

A: Definitely. We are currently working in full swing on a DX11/ DX12 render support and on an effective multi-core processing. We cannot give any estimates yet in regard to when these improvements will be introduced, though.

Q: Will there be any new skills/perks introduced to the crews?

A: That is quite possible. In fact, various options are currently being taken into consideration in regard to Crew Skills/Perks, including an overhaul of the entire Skill/Perk system. However, no decisions have been made on the subject yet.

Q: Will there be more vehicle types introduced to the game?

A: No, currently there are no plans to introduce any new vehicle types to the game.

Q: Now that the multi-turret system works on World of Warships, any chance to get it on World of Tanks for tanks with two guns? Also, will we be able to use smoke grenades in tanks like in ships?

A: Introducing a system to control the secondary armaments in tanks is not planned for now. This is due to the fact that the secondary armaments, which are mostly machine guns, would be ineffective in tank on tank combat. Of course, being able to control secondary turrets and guns may look cool, but ultimately would be meaningless for the gameplay as it is now.

When it comes to smoke grenades, we are in fact currently exploring the idea of bringing them to tanks. However, there are a couple of solutions we need to handle first, before it is technically possible to have working smoke screens in the game.

Q: Will we ever see Japanese and Chinese tank destroyers and SPGs in the game?

A: It is quite possible. However, this will not happen in the near future.

Q: When will the HAVOK engine be fully introduced in the game?

A: We haven’t forgotten about it and are in fact still working on it. We want to make sure that the engine’s performance and optimisation is top quality upon release. Therefore, we are not able to provide an estimation when it will come.

Look forward to the future, Commanders!
