There are collector’s items, and then there are treasures that are very hard to find—like the III Sexton I . It is one of only two Premium SPGs in World of Tanks, which already makes it extraordinary, but it is also a very scarce sight in the Premium Shop. Rumor has it that last time, you were only able to get it from some shady character. Don’t miss your chance to add this self-propelled gun, based on an American tank hull and built by Canada for the British Army, to your collection.
Prior to the Sexton I, Britain was supplied by the U.S. Army with M7 Priest SPGs. An excellent armament, but it was unfortunately equipped with the American 105 mm howitzer instead of the more common QF 25-pounder gun-howitzer. Keeping up an additional ammunition supply line for a limited number of vehicles complicated matters for the British Army, which is why an alternative was needed.
Attempts to equip the M7 Priest with the British cannon proved unsuccessful, so Britain turned to Canada for a new design. The Canadian Army Engineering Design Branch was tasked with developing an artillery vehicle similar to the M7 on the Ram tank chassis. The Ram tank was a Canadian tank design that used the chassis of the American M3 tank. A prototype was completed and shipped to the United Kingdom in early 1943. The new vehicle was highly satisfactory and received the designation “Sexton.”
The Sexton I is a rare low-tier British artillery with an exceptionally high rate of fire, enough shells to send the entire enemy team back to the Garage, the choice of two AP shells, and a tremendously good gun depression of 9 degrees, especially for an SPG. Add this rare gem to your collection, and set the battlefield ablaze!
