WGL Season 2, 2015-2016

No time to rest - the Wargaming.net Season 2 League is already upon us! We are happy to announce that it will start on Monday 23 November, with matches every Tuesday and Thursday, after the initial Super Week.

New seasons often mean new rules, but for now, let’s keep it simple and focus on one big, enormous, change. As we announced during the Continental Rumble last month, Tier X will be entering the competition for the first time this season! This change has been highly anticipated and it is sure to bring an additional level of destruction to the eSports scene.

Why now, you may ask? The answer is simple: after gathering the feedback from the finest players out there, we felt the period between Seasons was the right time to move forward with the change. Thanks to this, all the teams will be able to cut their teeth on the entire season, so as to be fully prepared for the playoffs in February and The Grand Finals in April.

Of course, beasts as huge as our Tier Xs cannot just roll onto the stage without causing some havoc, so there will be some tiny adjustments to the game rules… Fear not! We have them all covered for you!

What you need to know:

- new battle format: 7/68, with no Tier limitation.

- new match format : best of 9 on four different maps, with tie breakers.

- new battle time limit: 10 minutes.

- the map pool is slightly adjusted: Mines, Cliff, Prokhorovka, Himmelsdorf, Ghost Town, Murovanka, Ruinberg, Steppes.

- attack/defence remains the game mode.

- the league structure remains the same :

  • The Bronze Series, where all the teams play against each other.
  • The Silver Series, where things start to get serious. The best bronze teams can be promoted to this league every week. The most successful Silver teams can be promoted to the Gold Series at the end of each season.
  • The Gold Series. This is where the real pro action occurs. In this Series, the very best teams compete against each other for big cash prizes.

More information about the Silver and Bronze Series, including the Bronze Series rulebook, will be available directly on the ESL portal. For the reading enthusiasts, you can view and save the Wargaming.net League, European Gold Series, Season 2, official rulebook.

Adjustment of the regional lock rules next season

We have modified the organisation of our regional clusters. The change will come into effect next season (after The Grand Finals). This will mostly affect a number of teams from Ukraine, Moldova and Azerbaijan, who will be competing in the RU cluster next season.

For full information about the cluster your team can play on, please check the regional rules in the official rulebook.
