We have our twelve contenders for this season. They will fight tooth and nail to come out on top and prove they are the very best at what they do. The stakes are considerable. In addition to an exceptional cash prize, each team will want to be Europe’s representatives for the Grand Finals in April 2016 and literally take a shot at the title of World Champion. Below, you can see all the teams and where you can follow them. Please note that some teams' media pages may be under construction and will feature more content as the season progresses. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look, starting with the newest addition to the League:
Resourceful winners of the Open Qualifiers, Oops - The Tough Giraffes will be facing fierce competition in the Gold Series. They had already come close to qualifying through the relegation bracket before this season, but initially didn’t make it. Fortunately, they didn’t miss their second opportunity.
"Most of us have never played any Gold Series matches, but on Tier X, we can offer a lot of surprises!"
Team Synergy has been around since the early days of the league and are one of the tougher teams out there. They have the experience and the skill. If they play their game well, maybe the new Tier X format will help them reach the finals? They definitely have the potential.
"We made a lot of changes after Season 5 last year. We guess that we will show you beautiful games by our new team. Good luck, tank commanders."
Tornado ROX. The winners of the latest Continental Rumble gave Na’vi and Wombats on Tanks quite a beating. Will they be able to keep up their good form this season? There is every reason to think so. One thing is certain, they will want the title, and nothing else.
Winners of the League two seasons ago, Kazna Kru has been in the WGL since the beginning. Their most recent feat of arms was a convincing 4th place at The Grand Finals 2015. No doubt they will aim high this season again!
Team UTOPIA, led by Mukaa, is a model of consistency. After their 7th place last season, the Polish team will attempt to capitalise on their performance to improve their ranking, and, perhaps, reach the finals?
Wombats on Tanks. These guys are fan favourites. They have been in the League since the beginning, with some excellent and consistent performances. They finished first in the very first season of the WGL and recently claimed second place at the Continental Rumble. Much like tanks in shape, Wombats are short-legged animals, but are very muscular. You do not want to mess with them!
"On average, each member of the team spends 38 hours per week on training (sparring with other teams, improving personal skills, testing new features on the maps, etc.). It is almost like the average workweek in Europe.
Responsibility, discipline and clear vision - this is what makes us professionals"
Talking about steady performances, Penta Sports has been to three offline finals in a row - not something you see every day! They finished second in season 1, 2015-2016 and were the only team to defeat Supreme. With the regretted departure of the latter, are we going to see Penta dominate the scene?
"We are really excited to play the season 2 with Tier Xs and we hope we can show the other teams our strength. We are aiming to qualify for the Season 2 Offline Finals"
Team DiNG came close to relegation in Season 1 for their first season in the WGL. However, they avoided this outcome and showed good potential. If they manage to be consistent, they may well surprise us this season.
"Hello, we are team DiNG and we will show you some interesting plays this season. Our biggest rival is probably Stronk Siema, since we started with them in the Silver Series and they were already there a big rival to us. This season we are aiming for the top 4 spot to get to the Offline finals."
As the name and logo suggest, Stronk Siema is a polish team, that finished 9th last Season. We will see how well they fare on the Tier X and whether they can upset the hierarchy this time.
"Do we have a team ritual ? We just meet on Teamspeak, have some laughs and try to win the game !"
Rusty Roster qualified after beating WUSA in the season 1 relegation matches. The team led by "basistaa" will have to prove their worth on the battlefield. They can count on the former Evil Panda Squad player “POLzwed” to shine this season.
"The best plan is a plan that executes itself."
"We have fought hard in the Silver Series to get to Gold. Now we will fight even harder to be on top. There is no match we can't win."
Led by the former Kazna Cru player “Crux”, Knäckebröd qualified through the Season 1 relegation matches by defeating noMERCY, WASP and Rusty Roster! Their logo is pretty cool, but are they champion material? It’s up to them to prove it.
Last but not least, team Out of Range is a fairly new team, a mix of young blood and experienced players, led by "Carmon" (former member of Mousesports – Lemming Train). They managed to climb into the Gold Series by winning the Silver Series in Season 1. Now, they will attempt to secure their spot, and possibly reach the higher ranks again.
"As the winners of Silver League we want to prove that our place is among the best teams on the European server, and that we still can show something new to the old dogs. As always, our biggest rivals will be the other Polish teams, and our fierce opponents from the Silver Series: Team Oops! We can't wait to show our skill and tactics to a wider public !"
And that is all of them! Favourites, outsiders and hungry newcomers - we have them all, but only one of these teams will take the crown! Who do you think will come out on top? Who will be knocked out? And most importantly, which team will you support? Tell us on the forums!
Don't forget, you can follow the gold series live on the WGLEU twitch.tv channel.
