Tank Academy: Focus on the AMX 13 90

The second part of the revived Tank Academy is here! This time around, we are going to focus on yet another light tank - however this one will give you a taste of another class as well. The star of this article, the French AMX 13 90 light tank, is one of the most valued tanks at Tier VIII. Why is that? Let's have a look.

AMX 13 90

It was the French line of light and medium tanks which pioneered autoloaders in the game. While a lot of time has passed since then, these French tanks are still greatly valued for their combination of rapid fire, speed and manoeuvrability.

The AMX 13 90 is not an ordinary light tank. It might share the basic characteristics of its peers, in the form of non-existent armour and fast manoeuvrability, but there is more to this small giant. Its autoloader, with a decent penetration of 170 mm, allows it to adopt the playstyle of a medium tank and brawl with heavier enemies, or become part of a wolf pack. If you do chose to play like a medium tank though, it's better to equip the tank with the Strong Coffee consumable and a few clips of premium ammunition. Your gun is not very precise, so when on the move you cannot really aim for weak spots, meaning the extra penetration on your gun will come in handy. A wolf pack of AMX 13 90's makes for deadly company then.

The key is to always carefully consider your next action. As you are very vulnerable, you will want to use hit and run tactics while brawling, which is not possible when you run into a pack of angry enemies. It's best to single out weak and damaged individuals and finish them off. Once you have done the damage and your drum is empty, you can either hide in a safe spot and wait until you can go hunting again, or you can annoy your enemies, by always staying in the corner of their eyes. If you do it right, your opponents will be distracted, allowing your allies to put some shells into them.

Last but not least, you can of course still take up the role of a good old scout, be it an active or passive one. Your camo value is excellent and your silhouette small, so you can easily hide in almost any bush and help your allies to crush the enemy team. Just remember, once you fire your gun near the enemy, move! You will most likely get spotted and you certainly can't endure their revenge.

With the arrival of the new movement physics in 9.14, you will also be able to do some crazy manoeuvres, by locking one of the tracks, or simply by choosing the right combination of keys pressed. Therefore, active scouting will open up even more possibilities as to how to trick your enemies into digging some rat holes, instead of them making a strainer out of you. And one last piece of advice: if you choose to be an active scout, always move!
