AC1 Sentinel Finds New Home

Wargaming.net has always been involved in projects relating to the military. This time, we were helping an Aussie tank, the AC1 Sentinel, get to its new home.

A little bit of history

The Australian Cruiser Mk I (AC1) Sentinel tank was an indigenous Australian design of World War II. In total, only 65 Sentinels of that type were serially produced from 1942 to 1943.

However, the Sentinel was the first vehicle in military history to be built with a hull cast as a single piece. Furthermore, it was the only tank to be produced in quantity in Australia. Unfortunately, the rushed development process led to some deficiencies.

In 1943, the 3rd Army Tank Battalion was equipped with a squadron of AC1 tanks, which had been modified to resemble German tanks. It's worth mentioning that these tanks were also movie stars, used in the filming of the movie The Rats of Tobruk.

The time has passed and now there are only three AC1 Sentinel tanks left in the world. One of the three remaining vehicles belonged to a huge tank enthusiast and collector in the USA: Jacques Littlefield. He owned one of the biggest private collections in the world - a whopping amount of over 220 military vehicles.

Transportation

Wargaming has successfully transported the tank from Texas, USA, to its new home, the Australian Armour & Artillery Museum in Cairns. Acquired from Littlefield’s substantial collection, the Sentinel is now waiting to undergo minor renovations and will soon make its public debut.

World of Tanks fans will get their hands on this unique vehicle in the near future.
